AI Summary

This bill, known as the Personhood Act of South Carolina, seeks to amend the state's criminal code to establish that the right to life begins at fertilization for all born and unborn human beings. It defines "person," "human," and "human being" as natural persons created in the image of God from the point of fertilization. The bill prohibits depriving any person of life without due process or denying them equal protection under the law. It includes provisions to allow medical procedures to save the life of a pregnant woman, permit contraception, and regulate in vitro fertilization. The bill would also repeal the state's existing abortion laws.
