This bill, the Police and Fire Health Care Protection Act of 2022, amends the Internal Revenue Code to repeal the requirement that health and long-term care insurance premiums paid by public safety officers (such as police and firefighters) must be paid directly to the insurance provider in order to be excluded from their gross income. Instead, the bill allows these premiums to be excluded from gross income regardless of whether they are paid directly to the insurance provider or to the public safety officer, as long as the officer attests that the distribution does not exceed the amount paid for the qualified health insurance premiums.
