This bill establishes the Loan Redemption Program for Teachers of Agriculture within the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (the Authority). The program aims to provide an incentive for individuals to begin a career in agricultural education by redeeming a portion of their eligible student loan expenses for each year of full-time employment as a certified teacher in a career and technical education program in agriculture approved by the Department of Education. The Authority will limit the number of participants to 10 per program year, and the total loan redemption amount for a participant cannot exceed $50,000 over five years of employment. The program is intended to address the projected shortage of college graduates with expertise in food, agriculture, renewable natural resources, and the environment, which are essential to addressing national priorities of food security, sustainable energy, and environmental quality.
