This bill, the Fire Department Repayment Act of 2022, aims to standardize reciprocal fire suppression cost share agreements between the federal government and state/local fire suppression organizations. It requires the Secretaries (the Secretaries of Agriculture, Interior, Homeland Security, and Defense) to establish standard operating procedures for these agreements, review and modify existing agreements to comply with the new procedures, and ensure alignment between the cost share agreements and cooperative fire protection agreements. The bill also mandates that the Secretaries complete reviews, including second-level reviews, of fire suppression cost share agreements as soon as practicable after a wildfire is contained, in consultation with state and local fire suppression organizations.
