This bill revises certain requirements concerning the graduation proficiency test and eliminates the requirement that the graduation proficiency test be administered to eleventh grade students. It also provides that students in the graduating classes of 2023, 2024, and 2025 shall be deemed to have met the graduation assessment requirements if they satisfy the State Board of Education regulations in effect as of October 4, 2021. The bill also provides that the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment administered in March 2022 to 11th grade students, expected to graduate as part of the class of 2023, shall be considered a field test, and the results shall not be used as a prerequisite for graduation for students in the class of 2023. For students in the graduating classes of 2026 and thereafter, the bill provides that the graduation proficiency assessment or assessments shall be developed or designated by the Commissioner of Education, with the approval of the State Board of Education.
