This bill establishes a four-year "VETeach Pilot Program" within the New Jersey Department of Education to address the shortage of certified public school teachers by facilitating the teacher certification of veterans who served on or after September 11, 2001. The program allows up to four four-year public institutions of higher education to enroll a single cohort of veteran students in a 36-month teacher preparation program leading to a baccalaureate degree and a certificate of eligibility with advanced standing, which authorizes them to seek employment as teachers in grades kindergarten through eight, and in certain secondary education fields. Upon the program's conclusion, the Commissioner of Education will report on its outcomes and the advisability of establishing similar programs permanently.
