This bill clarifies certain obligations of minor children who have been released from parental control upon marriage. Specifically, it states that for marriages entered into before the effective date of this amendatory act, the legal marriage of a minor releases that minor from parental control, and the minor husband or wife is entitled to the same rights, benefits, and privileges, and is subject to the same duties, liabilities, and responsibilities, as if the minor were of legal age at the time of the marriage. The bill also clarifies that it is unnecessary to have a next friend or guardian ad litem appointed for a legally married minor in a divorce action, unless the judge requires it, and the minor is entitled to prosecute or defend the action in the same manner and with the same effect as if they were of legal age. This bill will only take effect if all of the related Senate Bills (1114, 1115, 1116, and 1118) are also enacted into law.
