This bill requires health insurance coverage of prenatal genetic tests, including carrier screening, nuchal translucency screening, and chorionic villus sampling, during the first trimester of pregnancy. The benefits must be provided to the same extent as for any other medical condition under the insurance contract. The bill applies to various types of health insurance policies and contracts, including hospital service corporation contracts, medical service corporation contracts, health service corporation contracts, individual and group health insurance policies, health maintenance organization enrollee agreements, and health benefits plans for state and school employees. The bill takes effect 90 days after enactment and applies to policies and contracts delivered, issued, executed, or renewed on or after that date.
