This bill authorizes the Correctional Association, a nonprofit organization, to visit correctional facilities at any time and without advance notice. It grants the Correctional Association unfettered access to all records and areas within the facilities, and requires the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) to provide escorts upon request. The bill also mandates DOCCS to publish various data and reports related to the conditions and experiences of incarcerated individuals on its website, and allows the Correctional Association to send confidential surveys to incarcerated individuals and staff. Additionally, the bill provides the Correctional Association with the ability to apply to the Supreme Court for an order to compel compliance with the provisions of the bill.
