This bill, the Local News and Broadcast Media Preservation Act of 2022, aims to repeal the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) limitations on the number of radio and television stations a person or entity can own or have an interest in. It also prohibits the FCC from limiting the common ownership of daily newspapers and full-power broadcast stations. Additionally, the bill amends the Clayton Act to state that the market share in the television broadcasting, radio broadcasting, or daily newspaper publication markets (or any relevant product market within these markets) of an acquiring person as a result of an acquisition shall not be considered to substantially lessen competition or create a monopoly. Finally, the bill provides a safe harbor from antitrust laws for news content creators to collectively negotiate terms with online content distributors regarding the distribution of their news content.
