This bill, the Better Interoperability for Devices Act of 2022 (BID Act of 2022), requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to submit a report on the interoperability of medical devices. The report will review existing medical device interoperability standards, the extent to which they have been adopted, and the implications for patient access to data, home-based care, telemedicine, and data sharing among clinical devices. It will also compare device interoperability standards with those used for other aspects of clinical care, assess patients' ability to obtain data from their devices, and analyze the cost burden associated with adopting these standards. The bill further requires the Secretary to consult with stakeholders to obtain recommendations for improving the adoption of device interoperability standards.
