This bill amends the definition of "family violence" and "abuse" in the Texas Family Code. The key changes are: (1) expanding the definition of "abuse" to include additional acts such as compelling or encouraging a child to engage in sexual conduct, causing a child to be trafficked, and forcing or coercing a child to enter into a marriage; and (2) adding a new provision that defines "abuse" to include certain medical or mental health treatments for the purpose of attempting to change or affirm a child's perception of their sex, with some exceptions for children born with medically verifiable genetic disorders of sex development. The bill takes effect on September 1, 2023.
