The key provisions include: reasonable expenses related to the pregnancy and birth, eligibility to claim the fetus as a child for tax purposes, a specially trained nurse to provide home visits, automatic eligibility for public assistance programs, reimbursement of funeral/burial expenses and lost earnings if the woman or fetus dies, coverage for the woman's disability-related expenses if she becomes disabled, coverage for the child's medical expenses if born with a disability, and a funded college savings account for the child. The woman must file an affidavit with the Department of Human Services to receive this compensation, and the Department will assign a case manager to ensure the woman receives adequate prenatal care and access to available programs and services.
