This bill authorizes parents to choose the school that their children attend, starting in the 2023-2024 school year. Parents or guardians can direct state aid that would have been used to educate their child in their resident school district to a "qualified school" of their choice, which can include charter schools, private schools, public schools, or public/private virtual schools, as long as the school does not discriminate based on race, color, or national origin. The state treasurer will remit the state aid directly to the chosen qualified school within 30 days of the parent/guardian's submission of a form indicating their choice. The student will no longer be counted in the resident school district's attendance for state and federal funding purposes if they enroll in a qualified school outside the district.
