This bill prohibits public schools and public charter schools from allowing students to compete in interscholastic athletic competitions designated for the opposite biological sex, as stated on the student's official birth certificate or other government record. The bill makes an exception for female students to compete in male competitions if a corresponding female competition is not offered or available. The bill also provides a cause of action for students or their parents/guardians to seek injunctive relief and reasonable attorney's fees if they are deprived of an athletic opportunity due to a violation of this law.
