AI Summary
This bill, titled the "South Carolina Minimum Wage Act," proposes to amend the state's laws to establish a minimum wage that is $2 above the federal minimum wage. It requires employers to pay this higher state minimum wage, which would be adjusted annually based on the rate of inflation. The bill also provides legal remedies for employees if an employer violates the minimum wage law, including the ability to file a civil lawsuit and recover unpaid wages, liquidated damages, and attorney's fees. Additionally, the bill limits the authority of the state Department of Employment and Workforce in implementing the act, and makes conforming changes to other state laws related to minimum wage and Sunday work compensation.
