This bill revises the training requirements for governing board members of public institutions of higher education in New Jersey. It reduces the timeframe for completing the initial training from one year to six months after appointment, and requires members to complete the training again within six months of the start of each successive term. The bill also allows for the training to be made available online upon approval by the Secretary of Higher Education. Additionally, the bill provides a 30-day grace period for members who fail to complete the training, and allows the Secretary to determine whether such failure will constitute a resignation from the board. The bill also appropriates $350,000 annually to the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education to effectuate the purposes of the legislation.
