This bill, the Aviation Workforce Development Act, aims to enhance existing aviation workforce development pilot programs. Specifically, it amends the Advanced Training Facilities for Maintenance Technicians for Air Carrier Aircraft Grant Program by removing the limit of 4 grants and increasing the maximum grant amount from $5 million to $7 million. Additionally, it amends the Aviation Workforce Development Program to provide $7 million in funding for each fiscal year from 2024 to 2028 and allows the funds to be used to acquire equipment necessary to deliver the required curriculum. The bill also requires the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator to establish a national strategic plan to address projected shortages of aviation workers in the industry, considering short-term, medium-term, and long-term needs, and including recommendations for legislation, regulations, and budget proposals to carry out the plan.
