This bill, the Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act, establishes a competitive grant program within the U.S. Department of Transportation to fund projects that provide parking for commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) and improve the safety of CMV drivers. Eligible entities, such as states, local governments, and Indian tribes, can use the grants to construct new or expand existing CMV parking facilities, reopen unused facilities, and identify and manage the availability of public and private CMV parking. The bill prioritizes projects that address parking capacity shortages, involve consultation with stakeholders, and improve highway safety, freight movement, and air quality. The federal government can fund up to 100% of the project costs, and the grants remain available for 3 years after the fiscal year in which they are made.
