This bill, the Augmentative and Alternative Communication Centers to Establish National Training Act (AACCENT Act), aims to support national training, technical assistance, and resource centers to ensure all individuals with significant expressive communication disabilities have access to the augmentative and alternative communication they need to interact with others, learn, work, socialize, and participate fully in life. The bill provides funding for a network of National Resource Centers on Augmentative and Alternative Communication to improve access to communication tools and services, increase awareness and implementation of relevant laws and policies, develop leadership and self-advocacy skills, and collect national data on this population. The centers will collaborate with various stakeholders, including disability organizations, educational agencies, and health care providers, to address the continued discrimination and unmet needs of individuals with significant expressive communication disabilities.
