This bill amends the Texas Property Code to require landlords to provide written notice to residential tenants at least 7 days before the end of the lease term if the landlord plans to increase the rent upon lease renewal. The notice must state the new rent amount, any improvements that led to the increase, and the effective date of the increase. If the landlord fails to provide the required notice, they cannot require the tenant to vacate before 7 days after the notice is provided, and cannot increase the rent for a renewing tenant before 7 days after the start of the new lease term. The bill also provides that tenants can recover a $100 penalty from the landlord for non-compliance.
