This bill increases the amount each local education agency (LEA) and public charter school in Tennessee is required to pay each teacher in kindergarten through grade 12 for the purchase of instructional supplies from $200 to $500 for the 2023-2024 school year. The additional $300 must be used by the teachers to purchase items that benefit and enhance the instructional program, and any unused funds must be pooled at the school level and used for similar purposes. The bill specifies that it is not an appropriation of funds, and funds can only be obligated or expended if they are specifically appropriated by the general appropriations act. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2023.
