This bill amends the existing law on sensitive instructional materials in public schools. It defines "sensitive material" as pornographic or indecent content and prohibits its use in the school setting. The bill establishes a process for parents, students, and school employees to notify local education agencies (LEAs) about potentially sensitive materials, which then must review the materials and remove or mitigate access to any content found to be sensitive. The state board is required to provide guidance and training to schools on identifying sensitive materials and report on the implementation of this law. The bill also allows LEAs and the state board to terminate contracts with vendors who provide instructional materials containing sensitive content. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2023.
