This bill amends the New York Highway Law to require the consideration of "complete street design" for certain transportation projects that receive federal, state, or both federal and state funding and are subject to oversight by the Department of Transportation. The term "complete street design" refers to designing roads that accommodate all users, including motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, and public transportation users. The bill also authorizes the Department of Transportation to compile and make publicly available guidance and reference material related to the consideration of complete street design to assist agencies in complying with this requirement. The bill will take effect 180 days after becoming law and will not apply to transportation projects undertaken or approved prior to the effective date.
