This bill amends the education law to establish a course of instruction and learning standards on climate education in all public pre-kindergarten, elementary, and secondary schools in New York. The bill requires the Commissioner of Education to prescribe age-appropriate curricula and learning standards that cover topics such as the causes of climate change, its environmental and social impacts, and actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change. The curricula will be integrated into various subject areas, including science, social studies, and language arts. The bill also requires the development of professional learning and educator readiness plans, as well as the establishment of an Office of Climate Education and Workforce Development to support implementation of the climate education program.
