This bill proposes to amend the New York State Constitution to lower the voting age from 18 years old to 16 years old. Specifically, it would change the language in the constitution to state that "Every citizen shall be entitled to vote at every election for all officers elected by the people and upon all questions submitted to the vote of the people provided that such citizen is [sixteen] years of age or over." The bill must be referred to the next regular legislative session and published for 3 months prior to the next general election of members of the assembly, in accordance with the requirements for amending the state constitution.
