This bill requires that all individual and group health insurance policies in Mississippi provide coverage for obesity treatment, including bariatric surgery and prescription medications, when a physician deems it medically necessary for an individual with a body mass index that is 30% or more above their ideal body weight. The bill also sets requirements for deductibles, coinsurance, and reimbursement rates for providers, and allows for referrals to non-participating providers when necessary. The provisions of the bill will go into effect on July 1, 2023.
