This bill requires the district attorney's office or the Attorney General's office that prosecuted a case to provide no less than 45 days' notice to the Board of Parole Hearings and to the crime victim, victim's next of kin, or members of the victim's family if they will not be sending a representative to a parole suitability hearing. This includes hearings for youth offenders, elderly parolees, and certain hearings under the California Constitution. The bill also states that a parole suitability hearing cannot be postponed, canceled, or continued due to the district attorney's or Attorney General's failure to provide the required notice. Additionally, the bill includes provisions for state reimbursement to local agencies and school districts if the Commission on State Mandates determines that the bill contains state-mandated local costs.
