This bill prohibits the use of state monies, including tax monies and federal monies passing through the state treasury, for drag shows targeting minors. It also prohibits the distribution of state monies to any person or entity that operates such drag shows. Additionally, the bill prohibits the state and local governments from receiving or expending private monies for drag shows targeting minors. The bill defines "drag show targeting minors" as an in-person show or performance where adult performers dress in clothing and makeup opposite of their gender at birth to exaggerate gender signifiers and roles, and engage in singing, dancing, or a monologue or skit to entertain a target audience of persons under 18 years of age. Finally, the bill states that a person or entity convicted of violating the provisions related to drag shows targeting minors may not receive or spend any state monies for 36 months after the conviction.
