This bill establishes a statewide public health and climate program within the New Mexico Department of Health's Environmental Health Epidemiology Bureau. The program will administer a public health and climate resiliency fund to assist local communities in preparing for and responding to public health emergencies related to climate change and extreme weather. The bill also appropriates $1.1 million in fiscal year 2024 to support the program and $5 million from fiscal year 2024 through 2028 for the resiliency fund. The fund will provide grants of up to $250,000 to political subdivisions and Native American communities for climate adaptation planning and activities, prioritizing underserved and disadvantaged communities.
