This bill amends Alaska's existing laws on school athletics and sports. It defines "sex" to mean biological sex and requires public schools and private schools competing against public schools to designate their athletic teams and sports as either male/men/boys, female/women/girls, or coeducational/mixed. The bill also prohibits governmental entities, licensing organizations, and others from taking adverse action against schools that comply with these requirements. Additionally, the bill allows students who are deprived of athletic opportunities or harmed due to violations of these provisions to bring private lawsuits for injunctive relief, damages, and other remedies. It also allows schools that suffer harm from violations to bring lawsuits. The bill provides definitions for key terms used in these new provisions.
