This bill enacts the "Big Five African Trophies Act," which prohibits the importation, exportation, transportation, processing, sale, purchase, trade, barter, or possession of any part or product of certain African wildlife species, including the African Elephant, African Leopard, African Lion, Black Rhinoceros, White Rhinoceros, and African Giraffe. The bill provides some exceptions, such as for items located within New York prior to the effective date of the law that have a certificate of possession, or for items in temporary or permanent museum collections. It also grants enforcement authority to certain law enforcement officers and allows for the forfeiture and destruction of seized items upon conviction.
