This bill permits the court to consider evidence of abuse when determining the amount of spousal support. It also provides that a party's conviction for abuse of the other party constitutes a substantial change of circumstances for the purposes of modifying a spousal support judgment. For spousal support orders or judgments entered or modified before the effective date of this bill, the amendments to the law constitute a substantial change of circumstances that was not contemplated at the time the order or judgment was entered or modified. The amendments apply to spousal support orders and judgments entered on or after the effective date of this bill.
