This bill would decriminalize the possession of up to 70 grams of marijuana in Mississippi. Specifically, it would delete the criminal penalty for the possession of less than 2.5 ounces (approximately 70 grams) of marijuana, and make related conforming changes to other sections of the state's Uniform Controlled Substances Law. The bill would maintain criminal penalties for the possession of larger amounts of marijuana, as well as the sale, transfer, or manufacture of marijuana. It would also make changes to the state's laws regarding the use of controlled substances by members of the state's military forces.
