This bill amends the existing law in New Mexico to update the qualifications and practice requirements for certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs). The key provisions include: (1) requiring CRNAs to have a master's degree or higher if they were licensed after January 1, 2001; (2) allowing CRNAs to function either independently or in collaboration with other healthcare providers, rather than requiring them to work under the direction of a licensed physician, dentist, or podiatrist; (3) authorizing CRNAs with prescriptive authority to prescribe and administer certain drugs within their scope of practice; and (4) establishing an expedited licensing process for CRNAs licensed in other jurisdictions.
