This bill amends the New York state tax law to provide an exemption from sales and use taxes for drugs and medicines intended for use in companion animals (such as pets) and farm animals. The exemption applies to the cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of illnesses or diseases in these animals, as well as to related medical equipment and supplies. The bill allows cities in New York with a population of one million or more to elect to provide this exemption through a local resolution, which would be deemed an amendment to the state tax law. The bill also authorizes the state tax commissioner to implement these provisions.
