This bill modifies the provisions relating to the Missouri Commission on Human Rights. It reduces the number of commission members from 11 to 9, with no more than 5 members from the same political party at any one time. The bill also specifies that the commission's function is to encourage fair treatment, foster mutual understanding and respect, and discourage discrimination against any protected racial, ethnic, religious, or other group, as well as persons with disabilities. Additionally, the bill recognizes the power and authority of any local commissions established prior to August 13, 1986, to seek to eliminate and prevent discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodation, and to establish related programs, as certified by the Missouri Commission on Human Rights.
