This bill requires coverage of intravenous immunoglobulin therapy for the treatment of certain pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders, including pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcal infections (PANDAS) and pediatric acute onset neuropsychiatric syndrome (PANS), as well as other autoimmune encephalopathies. The coverage is only available if the insured's physician obtains prior authorization by demonstrating that all other treatments have been exhausted. This requirement applies to plans issued or renewed after January 1, 2024, under various West Virginia insurance laws, including those governing the state's Public Employees Insurance Agency, Medicaid program, and private health insurance providers.
