This bill amends the Civil Practice Law and Rules to increase the value of homesteads that are exempt from civil judgments. Specifically, it raises the exemption limit from $150,000 to $250,000 for homesteads in the counties of Kings, Queens, New York, Bronx, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, Westchester, and Putnam. For the counties of Dutchess, Albany, Columbia, Orange, Saratoga, and Ulster, the exemption limit is raised from $125,000 to $125,000. For the remaining counties in the state, the exemption limit is increased from $75,000 to $75,000. This change is intended to provide greater financial protection for homeowners against civil judgments.
