This bill adds tianeptine sodium, a drug used to treat depression, to Schedule II of the controlled substances list in New York's public health law. Schedule II drugs are those that have a high potential for abuse and may lead to severe psychological or physical dependence, but still have accepted medical uses. The bill will go into effect 90 days after it becomes law, designating tianeptine sodium as a controlled substance that can only be obtained and used under the supervision of a licensed medical professional.
