This bill places restrictions on immigration bonds and requires certain disclosures for providers of immigrant assistance services. Specifically, it prohibits bond agents or underwriters from charging fees for ankle monitors or other homing devices that exceed the cost of maintaining and operating them. It also requires any such fees to be included in the legally permissible non-refundable payment for the bond. Additionally, the bill prohibits bond agents or underwriters from prohibiting the removal of ankle monitors or devices for medical necessity or reasonable fear of medical necessity, and it limits the premiums or compensation they can charge. The bill also requires providers of immigrant assistance services to disclose the source of payment to any lawyer or legal services provider they refer clients to, and to inform clients that they have the right to seek their own legal counsel.
