This bill would require medical certifiers completing a death certificate to list any means of assisted suicide, such as a lethal drug overdose, in the chain of events under the cause of death, and to indicate "suicide" as the manner of death if such means contributed to the death. This provision would be triggered upon the legalization of any law allowing terminally ill patients to self-administer medication to bring about their own death. The purpose is to provide notice to the next of kin that a family member passed away due to assisted suicide.
