This bill alters the eligibility requirements for an individual to be certified as a police officer in Maryland. It removes the requirement for a permanent legal resident of the United States to have applied for U.S. citizenship and have their application still pending approval. The bill now allows permanent legal residents who are either honorably discharged veterans of the U.S. armed forces, the Army National Guard, the Air National Guard, or a reserve component, or are current members of those military entities, to be eligible for police officer certification.
