This bill amends the vehicle and traffic law to allow current, active, and retired members of the New York State organized militia and reserve units of the U.S. armed forces, as well as their spouses, to qualify for distinctive license plates. The bill removes the requirement that the applicant must be an "active" member to qualify, and adds language allowing "retired" members to also receive the distinctive plates. The bill also specifies that a distinctive plate issued to a member of the organized militia cannot be issued to their spouse.
