This bill prohibits the storage of firearms, loaded or unloaded, in unoccupied and unsecured private conveyances (such as motor vehicles) and vessels, unless the firearm is kept out of plain view and locked inside a trunk, utility or glove box, or another locked container that is securely affixed to the vehicle or vessel. Violations of this provision are generally a misdemeanor of the second degree, but if a firearm is discovered during the commission of a criminal offense, the violation is a misdemeanor of the first degree. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2023.
