This bill amends the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to create a new offense of possessing a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a public recreation area. The bill defines a "dangerous weapon" as certain items possessed with the intent to commit a misdemeanor or higher offense, and a "public recreation area" as a public park, recreation center, or pool owned or operated by a political subdivision. The offense is graded as a misdemeanor of the third degree for simply possessing the weapon, or a misdemeanor of the first degree if the weapon is possessed with the intent to use it in a crime. The bill includes exceptions for law enforcement, military personnel, and firearm safety courses. The bill takes effect 60 days after enactment.
