This bill prohibits a person from camping, defined as engaging in certain activities for more than six consecutive hours, in a street, sidewalk, or other public property within 500 feet of a school. A violation of this prohibition is an infraction or a misdemeanor, and a person who violates the prohibition is liable for a civil fine of up to $10. The bill authorizes a city attorney, county counsel, or district attorney to bring an action for a violation of this prohibition. The bill also provides that a defendant who is being prosecuted for a misdemeanor for camping in the prohibited area may be eligible for a diversion program.
