This bill amends the New York Vehicle and Traffic Law and Insurance Law to require motor vehicle repair shops to disclose the types of replacement parts used in automobile collision repairs and obtain written authorization from the vehicle owner or their representative before using any such parts. The bill also prohibits the use of any parts other than new original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts on vehicles during the first year of manufacture and for the two years following, or for the duration of the vehicle manufacturer's warranty, whichever is longer. Additionally, the bill requires insurers to disclose the types of replacement parts to vehicle owners and hold them responsible for any additional labor and materials required when non-OEM parts are used.
