This Joint Resolution proposes to amend the New Mexico Constitution to expand the property tax exemption for veterans with a permanent and total service-connected disability, as determined by federal law, by making the exemption amount a percentage equal to the veteran's disability rating, and also extends the same exemption to the surviving spouse of an eligible veteran if they continue to reside in the property as their primary home. The resolution also clarifies that the person claiming the exemption bears the responsibility of proving their eligibility and mandates that this proposed amendment will be put to a vote of the people at the next general election or a prior special election.
