This bill expands the enhanced punishment for aggravated assault and aggravated battery committed upon emergency health workers to all healthcare workers in a hospital or healthcare facility. The bill provides a definition for "healthcare worker" and increases the mandatory minimum sentences for these offenses committed against public safety officers or healthcare workers. The bill also mandates additional fines, a portion of which will be earmarked for the Georgia State Indemnification Fund. The bill becomes effective on July 1, 2023 and applies to offenses committed on or after that date.
